Flag burning is free speech, yet many people say it shows extreme disrespect to soldiers dying for their country. I say, people are dying for other countries, why not make it illegal to burn their flags? People in the beginning of America weren't fighting for their right to worship a peice of cloth, they fought for their right to speak against the country and government and that can involve burning a flag.

I think it's deplorable, and if I ever saw anyone do it, I'd beat the stuffing out of him (or her).

I know that's extreme but, as messed up as this country is, I think flag-burning should be categorized as treason.

Flag burning is deplorable. An exrtreme form of dis-respect.
However, veterans of the U.S. have sacrificed their lives and forced themselves to make the difficult decision to kill for the right of fellow Americans to express themselves freely.
A privilage which should not be regulated.
Burning a flag in the presence of some could be rewarded with great physical pain, as is appropriate.

If you don't like it hear move. However if you were to beat some one up you would be violating the law. You are also so saying that free speach is only for thoughs that do not agree with you.

Acts of 'free speech' such as this should be illegal due to the blatant disrespect for those who have worked hard and or died for this country's existence.  Similarly i dont see how it isn't illegal for Marilin Manson to wipe his ass with the flag.. it makes me sick to my stomach just thinking about it.

The (american) flag is an insult to free people all over the world; It represents fascism.

The people that have worked hard for "this country's existence" were slaves; the people working hard for the same cause today are slaves. The people that died for america were not only slaves, but they were mindless, heartless fools that fell for the same-old trick the privileged have always played to perpetuate social order.

You probably get sick to your stomach because you wish you had the courage to act out your rage against the american system, and don't. You are jealous of the people that have the guts to stand up for what they feel, not just in word, but in deed.

Anybody that feels wronged by america, has every right to burn down buildings if they wish; burning a flag is just a way of making a warning before people actually get serious.

Are you so caught up in idolising your country that you feel a personal insult when someone does something to a piece of cloth?

I wasn't aware that 'being American' constituted a religion.

Actually most flag burning is a symbol of retiring an old flag. Instead of letting a tattered and worn flag fly they retire it by burning.

I don't see whats the problem.
