700,000 Americans killed each other in a 4 year period.
The only nation in the history of man to tear itself apart for the sake of injustice toward a foriegn people. To it's credit, pulled back together, included the former victims of injustice. Be a major factor in spoiling Nazism, Japanese Imperialism, suffer the scorn of jealous nations while attempting to be a positive force for good. Failing often, never giving up.
Were the effects good or bad? If you were one of those 700,000 or the family member of one, I have to say it had an ill effect.
If you worked for Winchester firearms, probably did quite well.
If you're a descendant of freed slaves, depends on how you view it. I've never heard one descendant mention the fact that 300,000 of those killed, died for that cause. I have often heard how the descendants of those who lost their lives in the conflict owe reparations to the descendants of the recipients of the sacrifices made by the liberators.
I recon, as any other result of any other action the effect is subjective.

If it was not for the Civil War the south would have sepperated from the north. Also Blacks would still be slaves.

500,000 white americans killed each other and for what. Our country is dumbing down to the point of being not the USA anymore but  the new Zimbabw.  Maybe we should change the country's name to NEW ZIMBABWE.  The result of the civil war did have a deliterious impact on the quality of life in america.

While this may not be politically correct but america is infected with reverse discrimination to the point of it being an epidemic. When we study the civil war, the texts emphasizes andersonville, but eliminates places like camp douglass, ft. delaware and pt. lookout.  the south had little resources, what was the north's excuse for mistreating confederate prisioners?

Only, 5% of all southerners even had slaves so how can one discuss this slavery issue as if it was an issue in the south.

The war was about northern agression.

Well the five percent who did have slaves had tons of slaves and they were treated terribly. Also there were not just a couple hundreds of slaves in the south no there were tens of thousands of slaves. And it was an issue in the North and South. That was one of the reason the South seceded. See the south seceded because they thought that Abraham Lincoln was going to take away their slaves.
