I'am Danny Haszard from Bangor Maine usa.Former member of the Jehovah's witnesses.Exited out 1-5-92 was in for 33 years.I was 3rd generation,so they still are holding most of my family hostage. The Watchtower swindled most of my family assets, left me desitute at first but i have recovered much.

The worst thing that high demand destructive Bible based cults do to their victims is they 'soul rape' you so you become angry at God.

It's been called."surrogate displacement" rage. You become 'mad at the world' and it takes a long time to recover,

God is good and gracious and i am stronger for it.I have a counter-cult home page please visit and browse.I am determined to provide education and support to warn others of these,'wolves in sheep's clothing'.

Cult is from the Latin [cultus] meaning to cultivate, and by extension, any group or sect which cultivates, or 'promotes growth' through their beliefs to make proselytes. In modern Theological terms, the word is generally reserved for religious groups which (in contrast to classical Christianity, of having God's Word as their authority) blindly give authority to their leader. These leaders are often venerated, and manipulate and control the group through their charisma, deception, fear, and even perceived power. Anyone having a fanatical veneration of, or loyalty to, a human leader, animal, or thing.

K...A JW, IMHO, may be psuedo-cultic, but not  the classic definition of a destructive cult. JW are not forced to remain JW, or kept from their families or loved ones in order to be JW. The belief system is a bit fanatical, but it is most definitely not forced. Fundie Christians are scarier to me....& at least JW don't go around telling everybody they'll go to "hell".

Oh...and on a side note, how is it that Satanic rituals make something a cult? Satanism is definitely not a cult....save the fact that most Satanists try to maintain a low profile so that freaky Fundies don't pummel them with ridiculous accusations. I doubt very seriously you know anything at all about Satanism, so perhaps it would be a good idea to do a bit of research before you post your outlandish opinions.

Quote from got_dooie at 10:12 PM on June 27, 2005 :
The most dangerous cults on this planet are The Catholic Church and The US Military.

Explain.

The Catholic Church: Killed over 2 billion people throughout their existence (over 1000 years), Child molestation scandal (the Church tries to cover it up), genocides that will kill millions in Africa and South Amreica through a condom burning campaign, baptizing babies (in other words they didn't choose to be Catholic, they forced into this religion), religious blackmail in Africa and South Amreica, supported slavery in the 19th century by stating "black people have no soul" (there is no such thing as a soul), separating Aborigine children from their parents in Australia to attempt them to lose their ancestrial culture, burning people at the stake like Giordano Bruno, and the list goes on.

US Military: Dropped atom bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki killing 300,000 innocent Japanese civilians which is the worst act of terrorism ever, invasion of Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan, excessive hazing and sexual harassment within the US military cult, torturing and killing "prisoners of war" oops sorry I meant "enemy combatants",   programmed (brainwashed) to kill without remorse, showing disregard to the UN and the Geneva Convention, dropping bombs in Iraq and Afghanistan, and other "crimes against humanity". America is the only superpower and needs to be a role model for the rest of the world. By using the US military to enforce their "might", our countries just might follow that example which could be the end of the world for all humanity. Now the US is just about to declare war on Iran. And it will use their military cults to occupy them just like Iraq and Afhanistan.

The Catholic Church has existed since the time of Christ, which would be a little over 2000 years old.

Killing over 2 billion people in its existence--According to what source?

Child molestation scandal--This has been a recent issue and this is just not an issue of the Catholic Church.  This is also an issue in other Christian denominations as well.  I will not try to defend these accusations, rather I will point out that it is not a problem known only to Catholics but it is a problem of many other religions and lay people as well.

"genocides that will kill millions in Africa and South Amreica through a condom burning campaign"--Notice the word "will."  Base on premises what are you arguing for this position?  If condoms are burned, wouldn't more life be born?

"baptizing babies (in other words they didn't choose to be Catholic, they forced into this religion)"  --  I'm sorry did I miss the part where the parents get to decide for their kids?  And further, when the kid gets old enough, there is something called the Sacrament of Confirmation, and this is when the kid gets to choose to stay with the religion or not.

I can actually go on and on to state more facts that you ignore to address because they would actually disprove of all that you've stated.  So before you hastily condemn the Catholic Church, please to read more about Her.

That is not the central core of JW doctrine.

The central core is that Jehovah is God and Jesus is his son.

And so what of it?  So do non-JWs, but at least we have the hope of the resurrection and we know that death is not the end.

C.Apostate opposer's like myself will not 'die at Armageddon'.

Condoms prevent the spread of the deadly HIV/AIDS virus. So logically, without them, there is a great chance that an increased amount of deaths would ensue if they rae disposed of.

I know i'm probably going to be hit with the "abstinence also a preventive measure" but, well, one day someone's going to have to realise this policy isn't working and that the preservation people's lives should take precedence over outdated religious beliefs.

The JW are as destructive a cult as any other other large religion such as christendom and Islam.

Each religion thinks they are the only true religion, and all other religions are false. They are all required to accept this as true.

Monotheistic religion is responsible for more human suffering, more human stagnation, and more racism than any polythiestic line up of gods.

Today, Christian Fundamentalist try so hard to get there nonscientifc version of creationism in our schools to corrupt the minds of children into wishful thinking. Christians speak out strong and hard against abortion rights, and anything else they find "unacceptable". Yes, Christianity would surely like to create a thiestic government in the USA.

I for one am tired of all the Fundamentalist pushing their agenda on the rest of America's citizens.

Religion just screws people up.

You might see this as Utopia, but I do not. I also don't think the laws are religous based.

Even and Atheist (i.e. not a thiest) believes:

Murder is wrong
Stealing is wrong
Messing around on your spouse is wrong
Taking your neighbors things as yours is wrong.
Arson is wrong
Kidnapping is wrong
etc...

These are things that most human beings will agree with regardless of religion.

Getting beliefs?

Are you so single minded as to believe that intelligent lifeforms like human beings do not have the capacity to use their intelligence?

What about the code of Hammurabi? It wasn't induced by the all powerful god at all, but it was man's way of differentiating between what he found socially acceptable, and what he didn't. It had absolutely not one thing to do with the Christian god.

Your statement shows a very narrow minded view, making man incapable of deciding things for himself, yet in another post you demand that man was given free will. Again, he was either given free will or he wasn't. It can't be both. Now there are societies all over the planet who do not know anything about the christian god, but they manage to have laws and rules. It is required for order and man understands that. You give man so little credit for his abilities, yet the bible says clearly that we gained the knowledge of good and evil. Of course this was classified as a sin, because guess what? It gave man the ability to discern for himself what was right and wrong. IU simply believe man evolved with this knowledge and didn't get it from some mythical garden salad.

What is IU?  Second, if man received the knowlege of good and evil from the tree, and all men are descendants from Adam, why would it be folly to believe that a nation not following God, could not use the knowledge they received to make a code of laws that might closely resemble the very knowledge of good and evil given them?  I would be very surprised if MOST nations did not have a sense of right and wrong closely resembling their original understanding gain through Adam & Eve's knowledge.

IU is shorthand for fatfingering the keyboard.

The problem is, man didn't receive the knowledge of good and evil from a tree, adam was not the first man, Eve was non-existant as was a talking snake. We have to get past the lunacy here...

It sounds ridiculous because it is.

But,  according to your logic, why would anything be folly? Hell why don't I just bring adam and eve back to life and march them around on pink marshmallow elephants.

The assumptions you make come from a single source. The bible, which has failed miserably as a true exact historical document.

Is this your only book? Did you not recieve science instruction in school? Have you never read a book on Ancient History?

You see, simply by your beliefs that man requires some divine intervention in order to create laws for society, you lower yourself (because you are included in the term man), and you doubt your own intelligence.

These are elusive side effects of religious mythology. The belief that man requireds an intermediary for happiness, laws, etc., yet time and agin through history, thinking man has proven otherwise without relying on a diety.
