I'm curious to see what everybody's individual world view is? I'm not looking for a right or wrong answer, i just want to know what life means to people out there...?

- How do you derive meaning from your personal existence? (i say 'personal' to avoid discussing mankind in general)

- How do you quantify or evaluate how "well" you're living? (i.e. measure of success)

- Assuming you hit the mark, and are 100% successful in your personal purpose, what difference will it make? (i.e. how does the meaning of your life co-relate to the meaning of other's lives?)

This is a pretty large topic... perhaps it doesn't belong in a "religion" forum either since some of you aren't religious, but don't that scare you away from weighing in. I want this to be philosophical discussion not religious. (that said, however, my opinion is obviously shaped by my religion, but i'm requesting philosophical/logical reasoning for whatever you believe, not theological reasoning please...)

To be honest I have no idea what the outcome of death is. So I choose to ignour this in giving my life purpose. As an 18 year old, my current purpose just seems to be getting into university lol. But I think that most people would find purpose in family and friends, or there isn't a purpose and you should just enjoy life.
hmmm... I don't think that made much sense, but basicly I just take life at face value.

Purpose seems to be a form of control, if you give someone a purpose then they feel important, and will be more controled in society. I good film to watch that has this idea is Brave New World.

I suppose i sort of feel i'm here to experience life - you know, all these emotions and feelings (good and bad), love and hate people, explore the world around me, just LIVE!!! I don't feel, if i were to practise any religion very...erm, religiously... that i would gain any greater meaning to my life - i would always be questioning why i was shaping my life around dying, you know? I just want to enjoy life and die happy! (and old, hopefully!!!)

I feel the purpose of life is to be happy and to be sure everyone else is happy. We were created for pleasure and not suffering. To fulfill our purpose, we need science and technology to help create a paradise on Earth and to remove our outdated religious beliefs that cause more harm than good.

Ok. If we were created for the purpose of pleasure then who created us? Obviously you must believe in a higher being in order to come to that conclusion. As for your first statement yes I wish everyone can be happy, but everyone has to find their own way in order to achieve happiness.   I don't know about your last statement... some people are happy exactly where they are so..
