The Great Red Dragon

Revelation talks of a great red dragon who gives his power to the beast.  We are told that this dragon is Satan, the Old Serpent, and the Devil.  Satan is first a spirit, an invisible intelligence which pervades this world and the cosmos.  Yet in the book of Isaiah, Satan or Lucifer empowers the king of Assyria to have the consciousness and personality of Satan filling him.  The power which Satan gives is first and foremost spiritual power, i.e., invisible power.  The dragon or Satan is also described as having great authority (Rev. 13:2).  Scripture testifies that there is no power but God: the powers that be are ordained of God (Rom. 13:1).  Therefore we should view the temporal rule of Satan over the carnal aspects of the world as established by God for the good of the world.  God gives good things to the good as well as to the evil (Mat. 5:45).  The rule of Satan over the carnal elements of the world is the best God can give to those who do not know him.  We also know that Satan does not, of his own will, do the will of God (John 8:44).  God's greater power and wisdom "hedges in" the extent to which Satan can exercise his own will and power over the world.

God invests the fullness of his power in the human vessel of Christ.   From the beginning Satan has wanted to imitate God (Isaiah 14:14).  It makes sense that Satan wants to manifest the fullness of his power in a human vessel to imitate Christ.  Nimrod appears to be one of the first in history to manifest a type of the fullness of Satan's power given to a human vessel.  Ancient writings depict him as wielding supernatural powers when waging war against his enemies.  That the power God gives men is greater than the power which he gives Satan is evident from Nimrod's defeat and judgment by godly men.  A form of this power was secretly passed on from pagan high priest to pagan high priest (the supreme pontiff or pontifex maximus) through the Mysteries.  The Assyrian kings at first were anointed to rule through the Mysteries.  This is one reason why scripture alludes to the king of Assyria as Satan.  From the Assyrians the Mysteries were transferred to the Babylonian kings.  The early Roman Emperors reigned as pontifex maximus by continuing the traditions of the Babylonian Mysteries as received by the Etruscans.  Nero is perhaps the most famous Roman Emperor who embodied the fullness of the powers of the dragon.  A supreme Satanic embodiment of the modern age would conceivably have a global consciousness capable of seeing and manipulating events ranging from the atomic to the planetary in scale.

In Revelation chapter 12 this dragon is cast down by heavenly powers from his direct rulership of government after the birth of Christ.  In chapter 13 the dragon gives the beast from the sea (the god Dagon, or the Pope) his power, authority, and seat as the supreme pontiff.  In other words, the dragon no longer rules the world directly after being cast down out of heaven.  Revelation describes the dragon going off to make war with the saints while he gives the beast power to rule the world in his stead.  The beast as a man is given a freer range to manifest more human attributes, while the center of the dragon goes to the "frontlines" of the Roman Empire to attack those who have escaped the more human deceptions of the beast.  In other words, the dragon leaves behind him a false Christ image in the Roman heartland.  Those with the mind of Christ and strong consciences cannot tolerate this false Christ image, and so they head for the wilderness with the dragon right behind them.  A cat and mouse game ensues between Christians and the dragon.  This leaves a trail of different Catholic imitations as Christians flee from one form of Protestantism to the next up to the present day.

The modern day "King of Assyria" would be at the forefront of the dragon's attempts to subdue a remnant Christian population.  Most likely, he would be from the "wild west" which retains a faint whisper of its days as the last frontier.  He would target those who have escaped the arms of older Catholic and Protestant institutions.  He would be strongly conservative while reaching out to the most liberal elements of society.  He would stretch himself across boundaries ranging from the traditional bowels of Rome to the progressive manifestations of "Christian" thought and culture found in neo-evangelism.  One man fits all these characteristics in a powerful way: Chuck Smith of Calvary Chapel.  He has successfully insinuated himself into all churches, businesses, and governments.  He is the archetypal manifestation of the head of the dragon which wages war against the saints.

In the spiritual realm Chuck Smith has power over world institutions as well as over the souls and minds of many "because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved" (2 Thess 2).  As is the way of darkness, he would never directly reveal this - possibly not even to those he rules over in the spirit.  Every king has a right hand man who multiplies the king's designs.  Such a right hand man of the dragon follows in the spirit of Hitler whose aggressive speeches set the world on fire.  The great red dragon's right hand man gives sermons spiritually full of the dragon's wrath and deceptions to subvert and overthrow unstable souls.  This man, Greg Laurie, as the "German arm" of the dragon, is in charge of the more aggressive onslaught against humanity, while the King, Chuck Smith, leads the greater body of "Allies."  The relationship between the dragon and his right hand man illustrates the fullness of the dragon's dual coverage.  The dragon is the great power behind every angle as long as that angle promotes either a spirit of aggression or a spirit of priestcraft.  Whether it is the Pope's power in Catholicism/Protestantism; the work of neo-evangelists centered in Greg Laurie; the postmodern Christianity promoted by his son Chuck Smith Jr.; anything in between, or anything seemingly opposed; there is the spirit of Chuck Smith, the dragon, in the background.  Chuck Smith's unique brand of "Christianity" called Calvary Chapel is a blend of everything in the world-wide system of churches rooted in Rome/Babylon, yet remains mysteriously separate and above all.

I spelled out a thoughtful position.  If you don't care enough to agree, disagree, or remain thoughtfully undecided, start your own thread and fill it with one-liners.  Your comments are unwelcome.

I came here to take part in debate.

I asked a question.

Honestly, I am sorry that I asked the *wrong* question, or in a way to which you took offence.

I thought you were a Brother, perhaps I was mistaken.
