This should cause some controversy.

That should read, "Open your mind to what I believe."

Why is that obvious? If I believed what you believe, you would not tell me to open my mind.

actually, if you believed what i believed and didnt give thought to any other theories/philosophies out there then i would say ur closeminded. i'm a Christian, but i have not blindly closed my eyes and refused to listen to other people's ideas

actually if you are Christian you have already chosen one possible explanation for everything out of an infinite set of choices and closed your mind off to all the others. That is faith. Closing your mind.

I am willing to listen to any theory but my sense of reason will shoot down most. I apologize if being reasonable is being closed minded.

i chose being a Christian because i considered all the possibilities and determined that Christianity was best

alex, you know very well (from past debates) that i am not the typical conservative christian. many christians today are close-minded and show alot of hate towards alot of people. i'm not that way at all. for example, i am all for civil rights (including gay rights)

And what of my closed mindedness? Can you blame a rational man for not believing in spirits, ghosts, goblins, demons, angels, suicidal dieties, etc?

Not a problem. It's easy to be borderline hostile to people you don't have to come in contact with. Looking at my link shows I am guilty of it myself.

I am not talking about your sense of humanity. I agree, I get the sense you are a good person. I am talking about logic. By choosing Christianity as the best, you are intrinsically being close-minded. I keep my mind open to all possibilities. I subscribe to no belief. I support exploration, humility, and humanism.  I am drunk right now, so I would like to end on a positive note: I love everyone, even if you hate me, and I hope one day, as John Lennon said, we can live as one.

i understand what you mean when you say that being agnostic is keeping an open-mind. but me, along with many other people (no matter what their beliefs) have chosen a specific thing to believe in because there is an answer to this chaotic thing that we call life. think of it this way, if you were taking a multiple-choice test and you were not 100% sure of what the answer is, would you leave that answer blank or would you make the most educated guess possible based on the knowledge that you have picked up over the years? i think it is foolish to just leave the answer blank, it is wise to pick the answer that you believe has the best chance of being right.

This is the fatal flaw of your argument-
This is not a multiple choice test. There are an infinite amount of bubbles to fill in. Your odds are the same as mine, for it cannot be disproven that there isn't some god who only rewards those with enough sense not to believe in him.

beavischrist is right.
however, just to make an attempt at your multiple choice test analogy...
I am studying for the GRE now, and have seen sometimes a choice D: "Cannot be determined"
That's the one I'd choose. It is the best answer.

Life is an essay.
