Can two people be joined in a state of "marriage" before the actual marriage ceremony?  Exactly who is it that has the authority to deem two people married? State? God? Self?  When can a decisive point of marriage be defined?

Marriage is possible well before ceremony, but people need a specific point of transistion, from dating to married.  Other than that the ceremony is just the move to a different tax bracket.

I think it should be each to his own, religious people should be married before God, and Atheists before...a judge or something I guess...doesnt seem very romantic though does it? "We have prepard our own vows" SLAM! "silence in my court room!"

I think that people CAN have ceremony before marriage or visa versa.  Its their choice.  If they believe in something where the marriage is first, then the ceremony, let them marry like that.  It's der free speechings, mon.

what if the act of having sex is the actual thing that binds two people together not some ceremony. God ment sex to be Holy and people have perverted it. ???

Nova nova nova
you with this point again lol..
listen what i think is that having marige is act infront of God and it could be done outside of church or cort or ceremony however you have to have a vow to eachother.... now this makes you one body in Gods eyes ... but to make you one body in man eyes on earth you have to have a witness to this and this creates a ceremony... lol i mean after all you do have to abide the law of the land as well as the law of God
