Why is it that we do not put more energy and money into the space program?  It's obvious, in my opnion, that we will not be able to survive forever on this planet.  The fact is that our society is growing to fast for the resources on this planet.  We need to begin inhabiting other planets, or be it moons, and make them eventually able to survive with out any help from earth.  This path, as I see it, is one of the few ways that we will be able to ensure humanities survival.

as soon as the hubble telescope finds a planet filled with money.

but seriously, there is a nasa program claiming it will have a base on the moon around 2018.

even more astounding is a commercial organisation planning the colonization of mars within 50 years.

the next leap in space exploration will be private instead of government funded.

I went to a party on the moon once but it was lousy - no atmosphere.

If the human race is clever about it, there will be no need to go anywhere - moving planets is a HIGHLY undesirable option for us all (and near unbelievable).

Resources can be reused, replenished, recycled and restored. So lets invest money in doing that, instead of looking for another planet to 'use up'.

I recall in 8th-grade Earth Science one day, that we were talking about the problem posed by our own moon, as eventually, over thousands and thousands of years, it will draw too far away from our gravitational pull to have any positive effects on the earth. To solve this problem, an odd scientist once proposed that we fly to Jupider and hijack one of its moons, in order to bring it back and sustain the lunar effects again. ...nevermind that our own moon would be much closer.
