This is the reason why I searched for a website like this, to bring up this question for discussion. Why are there property taxes? IF you fail to pay them, you get kicked off your land. Is that any different than renting your own place from the government? is it any different than China, where the Government acutally does own the land, and everyone literally rents it??? There's land in America which has been in the same family, and taxed just the same for hundreds of years, you would think that it would be theirs after all that time.

It seems to me, once you bought it, the land should be yours to enjoy, and no one should be able to take it away under any circumstance.

However, I wouldn't mind if it were like a sales tax, a certain amount which would have to be paid.

The government isn't much better than a common thief. I believe that their should be no property tax. My biggest problem is when the government uses my money to support things that I do not agree with, like Planned Parent Hood or Public Schools.

Special Interests costs money.  That money comes from taxes.  Lose the property tax and they'll just tax food instead.  Besides, nothing is really "yours".  If you die, you don't get to take it with you.  You think we should make Iraq give it's land back to the Babylonian Empire (oops, they don't exist anymore).  This earth has been around for thousands of years.  We're lucky to make it to a hundred.  We're all just renting space.

I have toyed with that thought, and if that is true, than it isn't the governments to take ether.
