the estate tax is needed to prevent an aristocracy of millionaire's children from getting millions in assets for doing nothing while the rest of us do alot and receive very little just because are parents are poor.
What the USA wants is a meritocracy where only the truly deserving get rich.
If generation after generation gets the same inequality built-in then eventually the USA will decline into Euopean attitudes about the goal of being so rich as not to work at all and wasting huge sums on luxuries and leisure time activities with no benefit to the general economy at all

I dont think it should be taken away but I think it should be reduced in the amount of money taken out.  Almost all parents dreams are to leave behind money to their family so they will be taken care of, and ripping out 45 percent of the money intended for your son or daughter really sucks.  I am not saying get ride of it, reduce it.

So because one man works very hard to provide for his family he shouldn't be able to leave anything behind?

REally?  well then, is democracy working?  What about the poor man who begs for money so he can eat?  Is that fair?  Are we really in a free country when are freedoms are that we can walk around outside?  The poor man cant get a job because he is poor.  Is that right mr. anti commy?
Communism solves that.  There are no rich or poor.  Wouldn't u rather be in that position than to be a poor man?

Yes, russia did fall, and yes people are going from cuba.  But cuba is a dictatorship, not a communism.  Otherwise, fidel castro wouldn't be the leader of cuba!  In cuommunism, there are no leaders.   And the thing about russia: They were a socialism, attempting to go to a communism when they fell.

To answer your question above, I'd prefer to be poor and have an oppurtunity to become rich, rather than be poor and be assured that i'd stay there with everyone else.

The estate tax, as such, should be abolished.  However, liquid income from an estate should be considered taxable income after $100,000 in any year.  If productive assests are inherited, such as a farm or stock, they would be tax free.  If the farm or stocks are sold, everything after the first $100 is taxable at the person's marginal tax rate.  There should be one exception - if the asset is sold to a qualified ESOP or Cooperative, there would be no tax on the proceeds (so when Bill Gates leaves his stake in Microsoft to his son and his son wants nothing to do with it, he would pay taxes if he sold the shares, unless he sold them to an employee ESOP).  This would serve the purpose of the inheritence tax, redistributing wealth - and without redistributing it to other wealthy people or to the government.  For more information, see the essay on Basic Structural Reform of the Tax Code on my web page.

The estate tax is a jelousy tax,it is preferred by people who know they will never amount to anything because they are essentialy lazy, they may hold a job but are only willing to do the minimum to survive. They resent those who work more than the required 40 hours or actualy start their own business,do your eight and skate is their motto. The politicians also like the tax because it provides more money for them to buy votes from the aforementioned group of people. The idea of communism and socialism is that no matter what you contribute to society you will receive no more than the one who has contributed nothing, this is more than acceptable to those who will through their own laziness, ineptitude and lack of self discipline never contribute anything to society, instead they will sell their votes to politicians who will steal the resources of others, theives and nothing more.

But is democracy perfect?

Those that you say are "lazy may well be lazy, but what about the heirs of vast fortunes and don't have to work a day in their life and don't. would you consider them lazy?

Would you go into another man's house and crorect his children if they misbehave,it is realy none of your,my or government's business what a wealthy person does with their money or whether or not their kid's deserve it or not,it is a privacy issue that has been turned into something else all together by people who simply want what others have and will take it any way they can.

The only arguement I ever heard for the estate tax is that it is an attempt to level off any aristocracy that might continue to develop in US. Well then, make it for the Aristocracy, make it a progressive system starting at estates vauled at 20 million or higher. For regular people, there's no point in it.

The point is, you are basically taxing a person for dying.  Seems a bit extreme to me.
