In canada if you ground a teen is it illegal.  I have read the charter of rights and freedoms and Mobility rights makes it seem that you can not legally ground a teen or child.  Is this interpretation true?

Leave it to the Canadians. If it is true, it's the stupidist damn thing I've ever heard. You can't spank your kids, you can't ground them? What the hell are you supposed to do? Positively reinforce all their mistakes. "Spare the rod, spoil the child."

My understanding of this issue is based on what I know about American society and law.  Here it is the parent's right to govern their child under the age of 18.  It is definately a great idea to ground in many circumstances.  Contrary to American law, I believe a good old fashion ass whooping is necessary in many cases to control a child.  This negative reinforcement will help a lot more to control a child's actions.

I am 16, and I am all for grounding. in some cases it can save a child's life.

Wow, I missed this thread... In the U.S. we can't spank (for all intents and purposes), we can't say they are doing anything wrong (you'll hurt their self-esteem), and if we add can't grounding, what exactly can we use to teach children that their are consequences to actions?  Wait for them to figure it out for themselves?  Reminds me of that idiot a decade or so back that espoused the idea that if a child thought "2+2=5" then who are we to tell him he is wrong... :P

I know why don't we leave them to their own defences.
