Really just wanted to take this opportunity to wish everyone an early Merry Christmas!
I'll be out of town, (shhh...don't cry) for most of the rest of this month and the new year until school starts back.

Anyway....the debate is:
Is it ethical to tell children that there is a Santa Claus?

I guess technically it is lying...but it's all in fun!
What are your thoughts on this?

I think christmas is becoming to commercialized with santa taking the place of what christmas intent is. Until that guy (i forgot his name) for coke drew santa as we know him now he wore green and was very small so he could fit down chimmineys...guess that changed oh well. Also Saint Nicholas day in Europe is a different day than christmas it is celebrated on Dec 6 and christmas is dec 25. Why dont we do like Europe and have two holidays so as not to lose the intent of what each one is for.

Firstly, being from a Jewish family, this hasn't really effected me personaly, but here's my thoughts:

1. The whole Santa thing in general is silly and meaningless. It's a celebration of God/God's son's Birthday and all that that represents! Although I support joy and presents and all, I think that there shoudln't be another "figure" for the holiday - It draws attention away from the point.

2. (Actualy answering the guestion) No, it isn't. It can cause negative feeling for both children and adults. If people must share the story with their children, share it as a story!

i think it is just fine, i personally still believe in santa clause,  my parents taught me that santa is not just the one who brings you stuff, but the one that brings the spirit of christmas, and not just on one day.  true, these days it seems like it is all directed towards stuff to get and toys and everything superficial, but i still believe, and i will teach my children that there is a santa.

santa claus is as fake as he is fat

all it does is make everyone greedy for presents, thats all they think about

especially the kids, they dont care about the birth of christ, they just want their new toys

thats one reason i dont like christmas, that and having to buy stuff for everyone

I was taught that there is no santa when i was little, but my family always pretended there was. The only reason my parents told me there is no santa is because they didn't want me to think when I found out there was no santa that God wasn't real.
