Evolution Support

"WASHINGTON - In a newly published report, scientific advisers to the government emphasize the importance of teaching evolution in public schools.

The report by the National Academy of Sciences and its Institute of Medicine follows up on similar past publications, the last of which came out in 1999. The new document, titled "Science, Evolution and Creationism," includes recently discovered evidence supporting evolution — including the 375 million-year-old "Tiktaalik" fossil, which researchers say blends characteristics of a crocodile and a fish.

The report released Thursday also takes swipes at creationism and other anti-evolution theories.

"Despite the lack of scientific evidence for creationist positions, some advocates continue to demand that various forms of creationism be taught together with or in place of evolution in science classes," the report says."

The theory of evolution keeps getting stronger and stronger.  Despite creationist claims that it is on the brink of falsification and more and more scientists are rejecting it, the evidence continues to prove them wrong.  Evolution is a fact, it is accepted by virtually all biologists.

I saw that very article yesterday.

Let's face it, the only reason some people have trouble with TOE is not because of the science supporting it, but because Evolutionary theory contradicts cherished religious myths.  Genesis in the Bible is an example of a biblical myth/tale that has no factual basis.  It is merely one of many, many origin myths that you can find in almost any culture from around the world.  Each is different.  None are true.  They are merely an attempt by pre-scientific cultures to explain their origins.

The theory of evolution, on the other hand, is based on irrefutible scientific evidence.  A tremendous amount of it.  Science may not know all the details, but new evidence is being discovered all the time.  The mechanics behind the theory will continue to be tweaked as new discoveries are made.  But the basic ideas that Darwin brought forth, natural selection and common descent, are firmly established today.
