WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Conservative Christian televangelist Pat Robertson told citizens of a Pennsylvania town that they had rejected God by voting their school board out of office for supporting "intelligent design" and warned them on Thursday not to be surprised if disaster struck.

"I'd like to say to the good citizens of Dover: if there is a disaster in your area, don't turn to God, you just rejected Him from your city," Robertson said on his daily television show broadcast from Virginia, "The 700 Club."
"And don't wonder why He hasn't helped you when problems begin, if they begin. I'm not saying they will, but if they do, just remember, you just voted God out of your city. And if that's the case, don't ask for His help because he might not be there," he said.

Robertson is a real piece of work!  So now he is the arbiter of God's will?  How can anyone buy into his hate-filled rantings?!?  How many times have we seen this, creationists are backed into a corner by real science and in a pitiful, last ditch defense, claim God will punish those who accept what science shows us.  If this is all Christianity has to offer, I want no part of it...

It isn't. You have to remember that fundamentalist Christians are in fact a very small minority among the Christian faith.

Yeah, I know, and you are right.  And I'd also like to apologize to all Christians for my anger induced rant, I really don't think that's all Christianity has to ofer...
But I would really like to know how fundamentalist Christians who follow Robertson can defend his inane statement...

Personally, I am what many of you would consider a fundamentalist Christian and I can say, on behalf of all of those that I know, that we avoid the "700 Club" like the plague.  Almost everything that spews forth from Robertson's mouth is either a twisted view of the Bible or blatant disregard for what it actually says.  Don't think you'll ever hear him quote more than 10 verses (those that, taken out of context, reinforce his viewpoints).  And yes, I have watched the show a few times before I came to that conclusion.  It's my opinion (which can be taken for what it's worth ) that by the time you've made a big enough name for yourself to be known "mainstream" that you've left most of "Christianity" behind.  Don't know how many of you are old enough to remember, but back in the 80's there was a song that had a chorus that went something like this "Would Jesus wear a Rolex on his television show....".  I'd say there's a bit of truth in that somewhere, but now I'm getting off on a tangent.  Pat needs to read his Bible.  Scratch that.  Pat needs to STUDY his Bible before opening his mouth.

Thanks for the reply.  I realize that Pat Roberson doesn't represent all fundamentalist Christians.  It's just sad that so many take his hate filled rants to heart.
But hey, this is a first, I actually agree with your entire post...

Ack!  I take it all back!  J/K

(j/k = just kidding for any of you who don't know)  It's sad to see anyone claiming the name Christian say anything hateful (I don't agree with Don most of the time, but I don't hate him and I surely don't wish anything bad to happen to him)  Time after time people twist the Bible and we end up with things like the Crusades and the Inquisition.  Muslims (not all, mind you) twist the Alcoran (Koran, Qu'ran, what have you) to justify their terrorist attacks.  There are so few religions which promote violence and so many people with violent tendencies that use their religion as an excuse to act out on them.  I think more atheists would leave religion alone (fights over state, school, etc.) if more "religious" people acted like it.  Just my three cents (figured that was a little long for two ).
