Saw the discussion the other night and couldn't find it tonight.  Accusations were made that the Bible teaches the earth was flat.

Isaiah 40:22--It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers....chuwg (Hebrew) means circle or compass, circuit

Jesus speaking.
Luke 17:31-35...so will it be on the day when the Son of Man is revealed.  On that day, let the one who is on the housetop, with his goods in the house, not come down to take them away.... I tell you, in that night there will be two in one bed. One will be taken and the other left. There will be two women grinding together. One will be taken and the other left.

Before you try to misinterpret, notice that at the same time--at Jesus' coming--people are in bed at night, AND two women working.

Just a bonus.

Job 26:7-- He stretches out the north over empty space; He hangs the earth on nothing.

Yes, some verses do indicate a flat earth, such as the claim that you can see the entire earth from a high tower.   Others, such as yours, indicate that it's flat and circular like a plate.

Some others suggest an orb.

The Bible is about God and man, and our relationship.  It's not about science.  If you try to verify science with the Bible, you will be frequently misled.

Funny how the Bible isn't titled "Intro to Science 101."  Hum...

Yes and a circle is flat, a sphere is round.  The bible pictures the earth as a great disc held immobile by pillars in a great ocean, with a beaten metal dome (the sky) covering it, God sits at the top of this dome, lording over the flat circle of the earth.

Didn't you read Job 26:7-- He stretches out the north over empty space; He hangs the earth on nothing.

No pillars there.

No one has ever claimed the scripture to be a science book, Mr. Mustrum.

No one is trying to verify science with the scripture.

I don't see any references for your claims.

The scripture is many times poetic and speaks in the language of appearance.  It speaks in common language.  People use the term sunrise or sunset, or
speak of a falling star.  That is common language.

How do you stretch out empty sky?  This makes it plain that the people who wrote this in the bible believed that the sky was a great metal dome and God stretched it out to cover the earth.

He hangs the earth on nothing.

But the earth doesn't "hang on nothing", it orbits the sun because of gravity.

No pillars there.

Then how come it says:

"He shakes the earth from its place and makes its pillars tremble.  (From the NIV Bible, Job 9:6)"

And

"Where were you when I laid the earth's foundation? Tell me, if you understand.  (From the NIV Bible, Job 38:4)"

Sure sounds like pillars to me.

No one is trying to verify science with the scripture.

Well, you were trying to claim the bible describes a spherical earth, so it looks like you were trying to verify science with scripture (and failed to do so).
