It is a weird thing - when you encounter a creationist, and they happen to have a background in engineering, they are almost certain to have a monumental ego, to believe themselves as speaking authoritatively on any and all topics BECAUSE they are engineers (they seem to think that this somehow givwes tham special insights into everything), and to be completely immune to correction of their erroneous 'conclusions.'

Case in point - on another board, there is a creationist with an engineering background who goes by 'lightwave.'

He boasts of giving 'evolution deprogramming lectures' at churches (of course!) and that he's never been shown to be wrong about anything, how he embarrasses hecklers at his 'lectures', etc.  The guy is a cornucopia of ego-driven, ignorance based stupidity, but, since he is a YEC with an enginerring background, it is always the other guy that must be wrong - and when there is no escaping how totally ridiculous something he wrote was, he tries to pretend he really meant something else (gee... sounds familiar...).

Anyway, below is a prime example of this clown in action.  The subject of Neanderthal DNA had come up, and the article mentioned that the sample was 'exceptionally free of human contamination.'  Let the YEC comedy begin...

Proof again that Evos read and regurgitate without critical analysis at all -

Here are some salient quotes:

"exceptionally free of contamination from modern human DNA"

conclusion: modern human DNA is contaminated because it's an information system subject to decay of its contents over time. Conclusion: Modern human DNA is far more complex than Neanderthals, and the disparity is due to our incomplete undersstanding of DNA, not any so-called contamination

There was more, but that is the gem.

He was, shall we say, 'corrected' by several. Here is one:

Words escape me....

The stupid - it burns!

Let me help the high-school level YEC -

OK...

So, you want to buy your boyfriend a 100% gold ring.

You buy a ring advertised as 100% pure gold, but you don't trust the ad, so you have the ring melted down and tested for purity, and you discover that the ring actually has 1% copper in it.

That is, the gold is contaminated with copper.

So, when Neanderthal DNA is extracted from ancient tissue, the process is pretty involved and if the material is not handled well, it is possible, since those handling it are modern humans, that some of their DNA can 'contaminate'; the Neanderthal sample in the form of sloughed off skin cells, droplets of spittle containing cells from the mouth, etc.

This is pretty basic stuff.

Which is why you come across so idiotically when you spew these knee-jerk missives without understanding what them big wurdz meenz....

And the YEC's reply to that?

and of course, means that they cannot say "completely" free, only "exceptionally" free.

I am reminded of an astronomer who claimed and published that he found phosphorous material in a distant star. Others came to validate the claim and after many days could not, so they decided to observe while the astronomer took the observation through the paces alone. Once he had the observation set up, he stepped off the platform, struck a match and lit a cigarrete, effectively allowing photons of phospor to leave the matchstick, bounce off the ceiling and hit the inside of the telescope.

short answer - if they wanted it completely free of contaminants, doing it in a garage in their spare time is not the right way. Doing it in a clean room is. You have heard of clean rooms, eh?

Sad, really

Truly amazing how these people operate.

And it doesn't matter which board yuo are on, what part of the world you are in or from, they all seem to operate the same way...

Well, it's actually not less smart than some of Lester's memorable phrases.

Just as shameless.

What do they do when they get caught in a stupid claim?

In Robert Smith's words:
So i tried to laugh about it. Cover it all up with lies. ♫

Scientists assert (by Lester):

Ha Ha. (...) I've told you people endlessly about my evidence but you don't want to show me yours - you just assert.

Would we see a mammal by the water's edge "suddenly" start breathing underwater(w/camera effect of course)?

Photons of phosphor? Either this is a new YEC term or he really needs to brush up on his basic chemistry.
