Hello everyone, I was listening to NPR and I heard that the US is trying to fund and armed force in Ourter Space. They say this includes putting Nuclear Warheads on the Moon and also importantly protecting American satelites.

I want to know what people think about this plan whether it be the concept of outer space belonging to the US or whether they are able to use weapons in space.

Well they should have plenty of fun producing weapons that function properly in space, and then training the all the astronauts to use them, so lots of funding that would other wise go to feeding the poor or more soldiers. But hey, I'm not to judge what they spend there money on.

What weapons can the use. ther is not oxygen in space so missile launches won't work and guns rely on combustion chambers. Even shuttle craft don't use fire to move, they utilize the gravity of surrounding stellar bodies such as the moon and who said that America should own outer space and where would our boundaries be if we had any.

Nuclear warheads on the moon? Sounds a little Austen Power-ish to me...and a little paranoid. What are they planning to protect, and from whom?

um i dont get. y do this? any way it wouldn't work anyway. due to the neuton's laws, it the warhead will go in one direction until it is hit by any force. unless u have tracking systems, it'll be hard to be aimed on target. also with the EMP and all that radiation it can really damage the earth. sounds like an idiotic idea

You are using flawed physics; of course rockets and bullets work in space. How do you think we got to the moon? Also most guns are airtight meaning that they could be fired in space. Also if I'm wrong about bullets (I know I'm not wrong about rockets working because it's obvious) we could use lasers and sub atomic particle beams. I believe at this point its premature to fully militarize space it wouldn't hurt to put a few bombs or lasers up there to ensure our future. But building an army of rockets and lasers is a waste of money and overkill. However having a positional satellite with a laser could prove to be very valuable in a war due to the fact that we have the "highest ground possible".

Poosniper is right. Bullets and rockets work in outerspace. Guns can be fired in water. Accuracy does not exist in water. He is also right about laser devices used from satalite platforms.
Yes, the U.S. should attempt to produce laser weapons for defensive purposes since Bill Clinton created waivers that allowed the Chinese to effectively target American cities with their previously inaccurate missle systems.
Once accomplished, the technology could be shared with all nations making the threat of nuclear war via missile systems obsolete.

The idea of putting rockets and such in space scares me. Cause eventually someone will say hmm why not work out a way to colonize other planets. He;ll work and work and eventually in many years he may perhaps achieve it.

Then nations from all over will use that technology to colonize space and there will be various space wars over entire planets causing chaos across the galaxy.

I say we should stay on earth and leave it at that

So if you had your way we probably would still be in the stone age. Because you would still be scared of boats for the same reason.
