Do you think you can power an entire nation with wind and solar energy?  For wind energy the wind has to blow at a constant 7 mph for them damned things to work, and it would take an entire square mile of solar panel to power a High School building.  So I guess we would just sit in the cold and dark when the sun's not shining or the winds not blowing.

No one is saying that they are the only alternatives.  They are alternatives.  And for areas, such as the southwest, solar is viable.  For the mountainous states and the great plains, wind is viable.   For areas around the great lakes, hydro power is viable.

We have multiple means of utilizing fuel to create electricity.  Should we say the nuclear isn't viable because it isn't ubiquitous, or coal or natural gas or...

A multifaceted problem calls for multiple solutions.  A large square peg has a hard time fitting in a smaller circle.

Ah- another reply against my liberal arch rival.  But anyhow, wind and solar generate too little energy, but hydroelectric power is good.  And why the hell are you worrying about coal when about 90 percent of pollution comes from cars?  Nuclear energy is safe for the enviornment because while the biproducts may be deadly, the only one that actually leaves the factory is steam- pure steam!  The three best sources of energy are hydro electric, coal, and nuclear.
