Personallly, i think that they should be allowed to become president because there are many great minds that are outside of the US that we could take advantage of. Also, the person could bring some new ideas into the country from other cultures. Thats basiclly what america is ,a melting pot of different cultures already so it would only open our eyes to new concepts. Of course, i think that should the candidate should come from a democratic country and well taught in American law.I need you guys to post as many comments as possible. I need all the perspectives i can get.

I might be wrong, but I think that foreigners can become President, but as much as America is free from discrimination, the idea of a foreign president would cause political disturbance, opposition would say something like "If we allow a foreign President, they will more than likely change America's foreign policy and allow a flood of immigration from places like Iraq", that's a rough idea of what I think will happen, I personally would like to see a foreign President, one who was not bigoted and discriminated against, but America isn't as happy to be a multi-racial society as most people would like to think, and this war against Iraq and 9/11 hasn't helped much, so my point is: I would like to see a foreign President, but only if they showed more hope for America than the other candidates, which is exactly how I look at other Presidents, the most promising candidate takes my favour, however, I also understand that in America's political climate, you can't get treated fully equally if you're not a white, Heterosexual Christian who never misses church and hates Homosexuals, you can never be treated like a normal person.

FYI...

"The President and the Vice-President are the only officials elected by the entire country. However, there are requirements for holding either of these positions. In order to be elected, one must be at least 35 years old. Also, each candidate must be a natural-born U.S. citizen and have lived in the U.S. for at least 14 years."

Fair enough, US Presidents are required to be US born, I won't argue with that, but my point is if foreign Presidents were allowed, they probably wouldn't become President because of discrimination and propaganda.

I think you'd need to reconsider the term discrimination.  Is it "age discrimination" to require them to be 35?  By that token, is it "age discrimination" to make require you to be 21 to purchase alcohol or 18 to purchase tobacco?  It's bad enough the number of carpet baggers (can never remember if that's one word or two) we have in the senate as it is, can you imagine one in the Presidency?

Did I not make it clear enough that I was talking about racial discrimination? Oh well, it happens, no, I didn't mean age discrimination, age is something that we all know 100% can't be changed unnaturally, I agree with the minimum age for Presidency, imagine having a teenage President, if it was up to me, the legal age for purchasing alchohol would be 50, as well as tobbaco, considering people would have the common sense to say no then, but that's just a dream, it would only increase crime rates and would probably never be reinforced.

How did you make it clear you were talking about racial discrimination?  You said "foreign" presidents.  English, Canadian, French, Australian, etc. would all be "foreign" presidents and could very well be white.  Meanwhile, an American president could very well be black, hispanic, asian, whatever and still be an American president.  Don't confuse "foreign" with a different race.  It is simply a different nationality.

HAVING A FOREIGN PRESIDENT IS NO DIFFRENT THAN ALLOWING THE REST OF THE WORLD TO VOTE IN OUR ELECTIONS... YOU DON'T WANT SOMEONE DIRECTING OUR COUNTRY THAT WAS NOT BORN HERE...
