| I'd love to see less gun violence, less violence at all.
Don't know that the Brady Bill is the best idea. Kept a lot of guns out of the hands of people who wouldn't have hurn anyone, didn't keep the guns away from gang members.
Got a granny on a ranch didn't isn't ever going to give up the 1873 sharps that her grandfater settled the land with.
Oakland can't even get an injunction passed to ban gangs. (Not to infringe free assembly but we're talking hate crimes and terrorising locals right (terrorizing being a big word these days should raise some bells.)
Why not require CDL carryers to qualify annually same as police (same background check...) and maybe be part of the crime fighting solution?
Some of the Brady restrictions were silly, made it illigal to put a pistol grip on some rifles. (Which are nice if you've got arthritis by the way.) But dosnt matter much to criminals, as they by definition, don't follow laws.
Made it illegal to have detachable magazines. Even a 3 shot magazine. So i have to load each bullet one at a time with the safety off...
I like some gun control. Makes it so there's no 8" shotguns or full auto weapons. Can't buy cheapo throw a spray of bullets uzi knockoffs. No $99 specials that blow up in your hand.
But... isn't the point to keep them out of the wrong hands and INTO the right ones?
I mean... we can't ban them all right?
Let might be right where a big strong guy spent 3 years pumping iron in San Quinten can muscle anyone and be gone in the average 10 minute response time to 911 calls in the city, or if you're in the country might be a half hour drive up the mountain...
Hire tens of thousands of game wardens to shoot every coyote that harrasses a herd, trappers to mutilate the birds that eat the crops (the birds i grew up eating instead of farmed chickens) track every wild pig that pulls up a fence and causes crop damage (remember the NoCal ecoli outbreak last year...) and to poison the deer and other game that are managed exclusivly... by hunters.
Right now if you have land, rangers respond in 3 days to a week for 'wildlife concers'. Like a rabid racoon in the woods behind your home, or wild boar or coyotes going after the family dog.
Not fair to point at europe either. Lived there. Anyone with 1/2 acre of corn had an unlocked shotgun in the closet. Half the people i know had hunting rifles often as modern or more than mine in California. And quite a few had millitary rifles (as they were in the millitia.
Why not require (like California) hunter education and handgun safety classes, start government sponsored civillian millitias of trained shooters to hang around with, and support local law enforcement?
With so many of our troops overseas (don't get me started...), local police understaffed and the horrors of Katrina in the near past... (remember the rumors of rape gangs in the superdome?) why not organize the millions of us ex millitary that could help protect this great country.
Millions of dollars in industry and legal hunting and sports shooting and ex-millitary like me don't want to be marginalized by a bill that see's no difference in honest citizens and the local gang-banger.
And for the argument that the honest citizen dosn't need a gun... Talk to my granny, she still shoots coyotes off the herd.
I don't disagree with all of Brady. Even as a gun owner (obviously) but there are parts that just don't make sense. Don't really ban what you think they're banning and should be looked at by people that know which end of a gun is up first.
First lets work on the crime, then maybe the gun thing won't be such an issue.
Glad to see your passionate about improving the country though. Whatever politics, it's a country full of great people.
