Nicolas Sarkozy, frontrunner as conservative French President:

-speaking to a person worried about criminals

"I would like to say one thing, in what is my conception of the Republic, security is the responsibility of the State, I am against militias, I am against the private ownership of firearms, and I’m trying to make you think about that. If you are assaulted by an armed burglar, he’ll use his weapon more effectively than you anyway so you’re risking your life. If the criminal is not armed and you are and you shoot, your life will be ruined, because killing someone over a theft is not in line with the republican values that are mine. The private ownership of firearms is dangerous. I understand your exasperation for having been burglarized two times, I understand the fear that your wife and daughter may have but the answer is in the efficiency of the police and the efficiency of the judiciary process, the answer is not in having guns at home."

Well there you have it, criminals are better with a gun then you ever could be, if you save your life and the criminal dies you might feel sad, you should trust the person attacking you to look after your safety, and you should trust the state to look after your security, especially when you are being robbed for the third time.

My values are different then the French I guess, because I think robbers should STAY THE HECK OUT OF MY HOUSE!

I'll tell you what's dangerous, people that are immobile in their positions and opinions after they find out that they're wrong, for the sake of saving face.

That's all this guy is really doing, trying to save face because he's had an anti-gun position in the past.  While people change, and their ideas and perspectives change, you will almost NEVER find someone that will publicly admit that they were wrong about something.

The enitre E.U. has a solid anti-gun agenda. So such comments don't surprise me at all coming from an E.U. politican.

What is interesting to me is not that he is anti-gun or even that he might think people could hurt themselves if they have guns.

His policy is that your house is NOT your castle, that you better let criminals have free run of your house and if you don't he will lock YOU up, not the criminal.

And if your wife or daughter don't want to put out for criminals, to damm bad.

That, kindrox, I'm afraid is part of the E.U. agenda.
