Scenario One: You are a muderer/serial killer etc.

1. You go to a gun range and collect various spent casings. Preferrable from a common round and the same shooter.

2. You kill people/persons.

3. You pick up YOUR casings and leave the previously collected casings.

4. ATF/FBI get positive match and arrest Dr. Finkelberg despite his airtight alibi.

5. Jury is swayed by the tech science of ballistic fingerprinting and convicted Dr. Finkelberg.

6. Repeat.

Now try and remember every new Glock sold for years had a spent casing delivered to the ATF for the purposes of creating a ballistic fingerprint database.

Scenario Two:

1. Serial Killer/Muurderer leaves YOUR spent casings at the scene.

2. Ballistics confirm casings DO NOT match the rifle in question.

3. Killer goes free. Can you say reasonable doubt?

It's a junk science because bolts, breeches, firing pins and barrels, can be swapped for functionally identical parts, but with a different fingerprint.  For the purposes of ballistic fingerprinting, you could change a barrel, and suddenly have a different gun.  The rifling marks in the barrel and firing pin change shape over time, through usage, which would also make the ballistic fingerprint on file useless.
"Ballistic Fingerprinting" is more a pipe dream than anything resembling science.

A crook would most likely change the factory barrel with a different barrel, possibly an older barrel. We the people of the United States should never allow our Government to take away the Second Amendment, because without that amendment there will be no First, Third or Forth Amendments. There goes the American Freedoms.
