|I chose to write on gun control for my English class term paper and i need some help on finding both arguments for both sides and places where i can find good statistics. Personally, I am against gun control. In my opinion, the second amendment wasn't simply talking about protecting the citizens against the British king, or to make a militia. The founding fathers, in a time of divine right of kings and tyrants, created this new logic that government was simply a job, carried out by ordinary people. They realized that people were easily corrupt, and they created a government system that protected its people, in case those in office became corrupt. That is why we have the right to bear arms. It's not mere coincidence that every tyrant began his reign by disarming the people.
Those who do own and collect guns are mostly educated people with a high income, as this is a rather expensive hobby, and studies have shown countless times, that violent crime rates have gone down when right-to-carry laws allowed citizens to carry their guns for protection (example: http://www.justfacts.com/guncontrol.asp#Right-To-Carry%20Laws).
I'm not sure where i've heard this, but this quote sure does hit the spot "If we outlaw guns, only the outlaws will have guns"
Ignorance truly does breed fear.
Anyways, that's my two cents, and i would really love to hear both the con and pro sides reply. :]
